We Made This Together
Hi! It’s me, Jonah, the baritone saxophonist. Remember?
Today, We Jazz Records is announcing the first single of my first solo album since January 2020 and I’m excited! The album is called You’re Never Really Alone, and if all you want to do is listen, you can do that right now:
Actually, even if you want to read a little more about what this music is about, click the link anyway. You can listen while you read!
Ok, on to the story. It’s just under this pretty mockup of the vinyl cover-art.
Being a musician can be pretty confusing. I spend a decent amount of time thinking about why I want do it. Or to put it another way, I think it’s good to understand what about this life makes me happy. For me, the answer is fairly simple: I like going out into the world and doing something that makes me feel connected to people that I’ve never met before.
For some musicians the moment of greatest fulfillment comes from the actualization of a musical vision, for others there’s fame or respect from their musical peers. For me, there’s you: the people I’ve met and connected with over years of playing by myself anywhere I could book a show. As of today, this mailing list has 1,416 of you who wanted to stay connected. Wild.
If I’m being honest, it’s pretty hard to end up at a solo saxophone concert by accident. Odds are pretty good that you chose to be there because you light up when you experience something new, something experimental. I do too. That shared desire connects us, and suddenly, for a night, we are a community.
For me, being connected to those spontaneous communities is the best part of being an experimental artist. Everything I make is in service to the cultivation of that community, our community. Without it, my music doesn’t exist and because of that I can joyfully say to you, and every other person who listens, that we made this music together. When I play, I am never really alone.
Now an ask. Will you buy it?

If you read this newsletter, you are one of my core believers. The people who trusted me with their email address. The ones who let me share my thoughts over and over. I’m very grateful we are connected. If you feel the same, this moment is a big opportunity for you to help me keep this creative life going.
I hope you will consider it! 🙂
Thank you!
Jonah
